CheckMijnPensioen.nl awarded communication prize
At the tenth annual pension symposium organised by Pensioen, Bestuur & Management, ORTEC received the award for “excellent communication by a commercial provider in the pension market”. “ORTEC developed an innovative and convenient pension planner, www.CheckMijnPensioen.nl, that not only combines the pension overviews of the participants, but also takes the entire family income into consideration”, according to the report of the jury.

This week http://www.checkmijnpensioen.nl/ was successfully introduced online. The free pension planner on this website, created by ORTEC, gives the visitor a clear indication of the family income before and after retirement. It not only shows the pension of the individual, but of the partner as well; and besides displaying the pension with current and previous employers, it also includes projected payments through the Dutch national Old Age Pensions Act (AOW). ORTEC Focus on Switzerland
During 2007 ORTEC took the initial steps in a determined strategy to expand its services to the Swiss institutional investor market. The approach included the creation of specific methodologies and models, particularly a detailed modeling of the liabilities reflecting local Swiss regulations.
In 2008 ORTEC will continue to strengthen its presence in Switzerland from its new office in Pfäffikon.

Guus Boender wins NPN Award
On November 1st, 2007 the third annual NPN Awards were handed out during a festive gala at Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky in Amsterdam. Dozens of pension funds, both big and small, took the time and energy to impress the NPN jury with their best practices this year. Guus Boender, currently on the Supervisory Board of ORTEC International, took home the most prestigious award of the night.

Robeco selects ORTEC for performance measurement
The Dutch asset manager Robeco has selected ORTEC’s performance measurement and attribution tool PEARL to measure and manage its equity and fixed-income investments, as well as their money market and real estate funds. The first tool to be utilized in Robeco’s new “financial service center” PEARL will help to better answer the needs and demands of the Robeco business lines in their current and future dealings. Robeco will run the system for about 300 portfolios.

Continuity Analysis
On January 1st of 2007 the new Dutch pension law took effect. As a result, the financial assessment framework (FTK) was activated as well. The FTK discusses, apart from the solvency test, the continuity analysis (CA).
Many aspects of the continuity analysis should be familiar by now: the analysis is meant to gain insight in the (financial) development of the fund and the driving power of the policy instruments. The forecast period is 15 years and limitations are set for the utilised (economic) starting points.

It is an independent network composed of academics and practitioners in the field, supported by universities as well as private and public institutions with an interest in Netspar’s research topics. By joining the forces of Netspar and ORTEC, we aim to improve the synergy between science and practice in the important field of extending and sharing knowledge with respect to pensions and insurance.
